Percussive Theater (Drum Line)

The San Marcos Percussive Ensemble is an indoor ensemble that consists of battery drums, mallet/keyboard instruments, and auxiliary percussion. This is a full credit class that is offered during First Period Spring Semester. The Percussion Ensemble competes in SCPA, ADLA, and WGI circuits attending WGI World Championships every two years. 

Rehearsal Schedule:
Percussive Ensemble rehearses during first period Spring Semester and after school in the cafeteria.

First Period 8:00 - 9:30 AM (M, T, W, F), 9:00 - 10:20 AM (TH)
Tuesdays: 6:00 - 9:00 PM
Thursdays: 6:00 - 9:00 PM

Winter Guard

The San Marcos Winterguard is a continuation of the Colorguard ensemble that is held indoors. This is a full credit class that is offered during Spring Semester and is a combination of dance and weapon work. This ensemble competes in both WGI and WGASC circuits. 


Rehearsal Schedule:
Winterguard rehearses after school in the cafeteria and band room.
Tuesdays: 5:45pm-9:00pm
Thursdays: 5:45pm-9:00pm

Jazz Band

The San Marcos Royals Jazz Band rehearses and performs all styles of Jazz, Blues, Latin and Contemporary Big Band music.  They perform at school functions, community events, private parties, fundraisers and festival competitions.  

Rehearsal Schedule:
Fall: Monday and Thursday from 3:05-4:45 PM
Spring: Third Period 11:50-1:25 PM (M, TU, W, F) 12:27-1:42 PM (TH)

San Marcos competes in Jazz Festivals throughout California, Nevada and Europe. The festivals they have attended include the following:

California:
  • Dos Pueblos Jazz Festival
  • West Ranch Jazz Festival
  • Westlake Jazz Festival
  • Moorpark Jazz Festival
  • Santa Barbara Jazz Festival
  • Monterey (non-competitive)

Nevada:
  • Reno Jazz Festival
Europe:
  • North Sea Jazz Festival
  • Monteux Jazz Festival
  • Jazz a Vienne Festival
  • Vienna Jazz Festival

Spring Musical (Pit Orchestra)

The Pit Orchestra accompanies the theater and vocal performance students in the Spring Musical. Members of the Pit Orchestra are a select group of woodwind, brass, string and percussion students playing original scores and arrangements written for the professional versions of each musical. This year the musical is “Damn Yankees.”   

Rehearsal Schedule:
Pit Orchestra meets after school during Spring Semester and the rehearsal times are TBD.

Auditions for the musical (actors/singers) begin in January. Sign up with Ms. Teraoka-Brady in room M-5.



Wind Ensemble

The San Marcos Wind Ensemble, also known as Concert Band, is a group consisting of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. The repertoire consists of original wind compositions, arrangements of orchestral compositions, modern music and popular/movie tunes. 

Rehearsal Schedule:
The Wind Ensemble meets during second period every day during Spring Semester.
9:45 AM – 11:20 AM (M, TU, W, F)
10:30 AM – 11:50 AM (TH)
